The Elephant, part two

A while ago, I blogged about the power (not energy) requirements of an electric car, pointing out how impractical it is.

It seems I'm not the only one to notice the problem. Some folks at MIT are actually working on solving it, according to this article: http://www.networkworld.com/news/2009/072209-mit-electric-car-may-rival.html

From the article:

In order to rapidly recharge those batteries, they'll need 350 kilowatts. "That's enough power to blow the fuses on 20 residential homes at once ... so we'll be hooking up directly to MIT's power plant to get that kind of power"

They are aiming at only around 6% of the power the gas pump delivers, and they still need to hook directly to the MIT power plant.
